And That Was That: An Abortion Memoir
BOOK LAUNCH: Tuesday March 2! RSVP worldsplitopenpress[at]gmail[dot]com
World Split Open Press is excited to introduce our newest title: And That Was That: An Abortion Memoir by Bonnie Brady. Brady describes herself as “an old woman in her 80th year.” Her succinct accounts of experiences before and after Roe v. Wade are powerful and plainspoken and fully informed by an understanding of today’s continued fight for reproductive justice. Her stories are an important record. Brady resists much introspection, allowing her experiences to speak for themselves. They were not unusual, but perhaps her honesty is. She always understood the connection between a woman’s bodily autonomy and her freedom—and safety. Brady did not doubt her ability to make her own decisions. She does not apologize for them now. She offers a simple warning to younger women: “Believe me, you don’t want to go back.”
We hope that by publishing this book, we can help destigmatize what is actually quite ordinary and halt the further erosion of our rights.
We look forward to hosting a private online event with the author. For more information, or to request a review copy, please email worldsplitopenpress [at] gmail [dot] com. Here’s to more truth and fewer apologies.
Feckless Cunt: A Feminist Anthology
Samantha Bee said a bad word—the worst word—and suddenly the families torn apart at our border, a result of Trump’s disastrous “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, were lost among shrieks of outrage at this forbidden word: cunt, “the c-word,” a word for female genitalia that makes us cringe. It was not that this moment of hypocrisy was worse than all the others. But it was a moment of ENOUGH. I posted a call for lean, furious, feminist responses. My Inbox became a collective scream.
Feckless Cunt gathers 52 pieces of poetry and short prose from 35 contributors. Some of the work appears elsewhere, but most is published here for the first time. Feckless Cunt is about more than one “scandal” or one controversial word. It is about rage and lust and reclaiming our bodies and stories. It’s about humor and voice and despair and the menacing threats that follow every girl into adulthood. Together, these contributors tell a story: how it is to live in our time, in this sexist culture.

A Fly on The Stonewall
In 2019, I helped plan and produce the “literary day” of our weekend-long Joshua Tree Pride. It happened to be the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall rebellion, and I’d been interested in trying my hand at a handmade chapbook , or zine. The result was A Fly on The Stonewall, a slim, stapled book recounting the history-changing events of June 28, 1969, from the perspective of a (literal) fly on the wall. Cover features the iconic Stonewall Inn sign, illustrated by the author. Just $4, with $1 going to Transgender Community Coalition (www.transcc.org).
